Bishop Fransiskus Kopong Kung was born on Aug. 3, 1950, in Lamika, East Nusa Tenggara. He was ordained a priest for Larantuka diocese on June 29, 1982. He was appointed coadjutor bishop of the diocese on Oct. 2, 2001, and ordained a bishop on Jan. 10, 2002., with the episcopal motto: "I am the handmaid of the Lord" (Luke 1:38) and "So that they mall be one; that the world may believe that you sent me" (John 17:21). He succeeded as Bishop of Larantuka on June 16, 2004.
